Summer 2015

By NewsLetters

It's May and the flowers are blooming and the sun has been shinning, so the year is off to a good start.

And like the weeds in the garden, my thoughts are just popping up on what has been happening since the last newsletter.

I thought April’s presentation was informative regarding TNM staging. I hope many of you were able to attend. Read More

It is hard to believe that I am the new President of this organization. I appreciate the Executive Committees that have come before, and I already have a greater respective for those that have previously served.

I have asked myself a dozen times lately “Where does the time go?” Again, as I pass the gavel to our 2015 president Shannon Ramos, I am thinking how fast this year seemed to fly by.

It has been an honor to hold office in our organization and I want to thank you for your support. I would especially like to thank the Executive Committee for their dedication and commitment to OCRA. Read More

Fall 2014

By NewsLetters

Happy Autumn Cancer Registrars,
I hope you enjoyed the Fall Conference as much as I did. What a wonderful way to network with coworkers, learn new ways to do old things; learn about implementing standards and so much more. Connie and Carol and the education committee did a terrific job.

The ice-bucket challenge was too funny and too cold. My family could not believe I actually did it! OCRA sent a challenge to WSTRA to participate and I can’t wait to see what they say! For any of you who were unable to attend, or participate, it is on You-tube! Read More

Greetings OCRA Friends,
Many of our members were able to attend NCRA in Nashville this year. We had a few challenges there without wifi, but even so, I think everyone who attended felt that there were some great speakers and valuable information shared. I was particularly interested in hearing Asa Carter from CoC review the new Standards and clarify a few points. One continuing theme throughout the conference was that
our work is valuable and quality reporting is essential. There was a lot of focus on NCDB, RQRS and implementing the new Standards. Read More

Greetings to all!
I have a question for ya’ll...How did this year fly by so quickly? My term as President is coming to an end and I want to thank you for allowing me to serve as your President this year. It was an honor. Once again I learned more about how well this organization can and does operate and I also learned more about member’s passion for the cancer registry field. I really
do appreciate everyone’s cooperation in organizing and attending the Fall Workshop, suggestions for By-Law changes, and also member’s willingness to run for office...we didn’t have to twist too many arms. Read More

Summer 2013

By NewsLetters

Hello OCRA members! I would like to thank you very much for the opportunity as OCRA President, to attend the 2013 NCRA Conference in San Francisco. Approximately 1,200 registry personnel from across the nation attended this year. At last count, 23 Oregonians also attended! So, I would say Oregon was well represented. Claudia and I also attended the 2 day pre-conference SEER Advanced Topics for Registry Professionals. We will be sharing the information we attained through this newsletter, blast emails, and we will both be giving presentations at the OSCaR/OCRA Fall Workshop. So stay tuned! Read More

Wow, I can’t believe it is time for another newsletter; Spring is just around the corner, and I don’t know about you but I can’t wait for sunshine and more daylight hours! Just on the horizon is National Cancer Registrars Week, April 8-12, 2013. The proclamation has been sent to the governor’s office to declare that time period as Cancer Registrar’s week. Cancer Registrars ensure the timely, accurate, and complete collection of quality cancer data. This data is fundamental to the nation’s cancer prevention and treatment efforts. Thank you for your excellence and the vital role you play in cancer epidemiology. Now is the time to brag about yourself and your profession! Read More

Winter 2012

By NewsLetters

Holiday greetings registrars,

As the incoming President for 2013 I want to start by saying, “Thank you” to all who have served on the Executive committee prior to me. Prior Executive committee members have written up procedures and duties for each position and 2012 involvement allowed me to listen and learn about what goes on behind the scenes in OCRA. I have some big shoes to fill. Active involvement is key in keeping this organization useful and successful. Read More
